Today's adventure had J, MB & I drive up to Boston - the capital of Massachusetts and one of the oldest cities in the US. Although J lives in Rhode Island, she's only a few minutes drive from the MA boarder; and about an hour away from Boston.
Our sight-seeing adventure included:
- Boston Common
- Boston Public Garden
- Massachusetts State House - external view only
- The Freedom Trail - while we didn't actually do the trail, we saw the 'red painted line' that denotes the historic landmarks along the 4km path
- Old Granary Burial Ground - some of Boston's most famous revolutionaries are buried here, including John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Robert Treat Paine (all three signed the Declaration of Independence) as well as Paul Revere and victims of the Boston Massacre. There is a central obelisk that marks the graves of Benjamin Franklin’s parents.

One the way home J told us we'd be making a quick stop at a place just down the road from her house. She was being very mysterious about it, and when she pulled the card into a dark parking lot, both MB & I thought it was a little weird! Lucky for us we soon discovered we were in fact at the headquarters of Hasbro, the toy company which manufactures and distributes the one and only, Mr Potato Head. So this is how it came to pass that right here in Rhode Island were came face to face with a 6-foot tall fiberglass Mr. Potato Head statue. Don't believe me? Well here's the photographic evidence.
