Another big driving day - but first up it was only a short journey from Florence to Pisa, known throughout the world for its famous Leaning Tower. When we arrived we discovered that being June 2nd, it was Festa della Repubblica (Festival of the Republic) which marks the day in 1946 when Italy voted in a referendum to abolish the monarchy and become a republic. So thanks to good timing, I scored twice - Firstly, Italian men; and secondly, Italian men in uniform....Travel west today through Tuscany, stopping first in Pisa's Square of Miracles to admire the amazing Leaning Tower. Next, head north past Genoa along the Italian Riviera, then cross the border to reach your hotel for two nights on the French Riviera. (B,D)
From Pisa we drove along the Italian Riviera before crossing into the French Riviera. Thankfully we had lunch at our last Italian Autogrill - if I never eat there again it will be too soon. The drive was along the scenic coastal route and during the drive we passed through some 180 odd tunnels and bridges (equating to more than 90 kilometres).
The highlight of our day was a quick photo stop looking down on Monoco. We then headed to the the Fragonord Perfum Laboratory Factory (Click here for the website). Evelyn & I went in together for a 5 pack of perfumes - I got two out of the five: Etoile (woody, floral scent with citrus accents) and Belle de Nuit (deep rich harmony of flowers and fruit on a warm velvety bottom note of musk).
