Day 11: New York

After breakfast we headed off to explore the Guggenheim. While on my previous visits I had only seen this building from the outside, this would finally be my first visit inside. And let me say, it lived up to all expectations, it was very impressive. We got to see the "Picaso Black and White" exhibition along with "Kandinsky 1911-1913" and "Now's the time: Recent Acquisitions". We spent a good few hours exploring.

After lunch, Jos & I went back down to Grand Central to check out the markets as well as the Holiday Bazar. But all in all it was a fairly quiet afternoon.

The big thing we did today was the Christmas Lights Tour of Dyker Heights - an area of Brooklyn known the world over for their over the top Christmas light displays. It was AMAZING!!!!!! And I think what got me the most was the fact that it wasn't just one or two streets that did it, it was street after street after street. Some of the residents even employee professionals to design their displays and one have such huge decorations that they actually have to rent storage space during the year to store their displays. And let's not forget, that many residents have to hire cherry-pickers to hoist their displays into place. If you're ever around this time of year, you really have to check it out. We also got to see displays in Bay Ridge that were a little more classy but nonetheless over the top. After the tour we stopped for a hot chocolate & Canolli before heading back into Manhattan.
