Day 07: New York

Temps didn't get far past 1 or 2 degrees Celsius today, but it wasn't too bad with a beautiful blue sky day. Our day started out visiting the 9/11 Memorial. Even though I visited last year, I felt that I had to go back again.

Reflection...

After leaving here, Jos & I found shopping heaven (again), this time at Century 21. But to please the boys we only shopped for about 1 1/2hrs - not nearly long enough according to Jos. We both got some bargains and I'm sure we'll be back.

After grabbing a quick bite to eat we then explored more of the Financial District, including the Bull at Bowling Green and Wall Street - which made the two accountants in the group happy.

We did an afternoon tour of the New York Federal Reserve where we got to see a glimpse of the "Gold Vault". Pity we couldn't take any samples away with us. Now for some interesting facts about the NYFR-

• Currently The Fed holds approximately 7000 tones of gold
• The value of the gold is $360 Billion
• It equates to around 355,000 gold bars
• The vault is 5 floors below ground
• There are 122 lockers that hold the gold
• 95% is held on behalf of other countries or financial institutions
• The Fed holds more gold than anywhere else including Fort Knox.
