Day 29: Dubai

With Mel at work again today it was time for me to get out and explore a bit more, so to get a more better perspective of Dubai, I ended up doing the Big Bus Tour of Dubai. They actually have two routes, so today I did the Beach tour.
The Big Bus tour is a hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour, with a personal recorded commentary available in 8 language.  I didn't get off at every stop, but here's my day in pictures.  Not surprisingly I choose the English commentary.
First stop - Jumeirah Public Beach (with awesome views of the Burj Al-Arab)
Yes, it's time for another self-portrait...
Next stop - Souk Madinat, Jumeirah
Royal Palaces on the beach
The Palm Jumeirah
Heading onto the "trunk" of the Palm...
The Shoreline Apartments - where we had drinks on Friday...
Frond "B" - home to many luxurious villas...
A modern mosque on the Palm...
Atlantis on the Palm...
Last stop - Mall of the Emirates (and yes, what would a shopping mall be without an indoor ski field???)
Mel ended up catching the metro and met me at the mall, and funnily enough it was "Free Public Transport Day" to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). According to news reports, over 606,309 people used public transport today, compared to a daily average of 140,000 on a normal day (source).  So of course, when it was time to leave, we caught the metro back to the Burj Khalifa station.
